OFFICIAL SELECTIONS
Requiem 4 ephemeris
Vibrant chit chat like memories quench the still summer nights of the dilettante fishermen and their court. Fane is the very soul of this odd camp, routinely cobbled up on the Timiş River bank, in the outskirts of Timişoara, Western Romania. Guitar and lyrics, deep monologue and steep dialogue… all crop into clean contemplation of supreme Father Time pushing human lives to their appointed tryst. Time as likely as not crystallizes in the air teeming with the myriad mayflies flooding the anglers’ camp hot nights – so biological life, of men and ephemeridae alike, inescapably meet in thespian innuendo which, by yesteryear small tokens fathoming and bespeak of an east side generation, pushes the limits of the living second to the far ends of eternity. |
A Few Words We Exchanged in the Dark
The institution of the strip club and the identity of the stripper is glamorized, popularized, and normalized in mainstream media in forms including film, television, and video games. Media depictions of this labor utilize the female body as object to provide an inaccurate impression of identity and reality. The stripper is dumbed down, has no voice, and in sum, simply acts like a moving object and plays her role. |
Cherry days
In a small town in Aleppo’s suburbs, bombings never stopped for more than two years. During the very hot summer of July 2014, the most followed sports event in the world took place: the FIFA world cup. The city is in ruins, women and children all left long ago, and a group of young men still tries to live day after day. This documentary shows the everyday life of the young Syrians today, and listens to what they have to say. Sports, poetry, dance and dreams are everywhere alongside bombings, tears and weapons. Discussing soccer and politics, criticizing the regime and the jihadis alike, these young people are surprising by how vulnerable and humant they are. They show a complex reality of a still hopeful youth, beyond the morbid images of the bloodiest war of our century. |
