OFFICIAL SELECTIONS
Essence: Exploring the Horse-Human Relationship
Since the dawn of time, humans have been drawn to horses - their strength, beauty, and power. We desire to have a deep connection with these wild and untamed creatures. What causes this longing for a relationship between humans and horses? Nature randomly taking its course? Or is this desire we have for a deeper connection a picture of God’s work of drawing us to Himself despite our rebellious hearts? Essence explores the complex connection between horses and humans and its deeper meaning with breathtaking footage taken from across the Midwest. WATCH NOW https://vimeo.com/155017393 |
UNRECORDS UNDOCUMENTED
A short documentary about 4 musicians and label founders who put the queer-feminist into Punk/Rock/Noise. The Viennese record label UNRECORDS jumps out of the vibrant Austrian independent label scene with its queer-feminist attitude approach to supporting Experimental/Noise/Punk/Rock music. Founded in 2012, it soon became a networking platform for a diverse range of like-minded and similarly-spirited underground bands. For half a year, the movie follows the four charismatic musicians and label founders, from Vienna to Zagreb, and back. |
The Firmest Friend
In August 2014, filmmaker Andrew Fixell ventured into New York City's Tompkins Square Park to interview four homeless youth about their transient lifestyles and their relationships with the pit bulls who travel with them. Andrew learned that these individuals and their four-legged friends shared a bond that ran deeper than just master and dog. The Firmest Friend tells the story of human and canine outsiders finding their way into each other's lives and giving each other hope where previously there had been none. |

The Banisher of Thought
"The Banisher of Thought" is an experimental documentary about the ancient and obscure musical instrument known as a jew’s harp, exploring its latent capacity for unifying seemingly disparate groups of the people in a universal human ancestry. Juxtaposing the province of Rajasthan in India with eastern Norway, the film is meditativ and minimalist search for the primordial space where musical inspiration emerges. Cinema is thus engaged as technology for observing the inherent mystery that surrounds and saturates daily life, and in so doing, positions so called ordinary reality on the threshold of supernatural time. |
LES ARTISANS DE L’ART – PORTRAIT N°1 JEAN-MARC LAROCHE
Most of contemporary art is drowning in purely financial art that has more to do with a financial strategy than with decoration. The attractiveness of a piece is based on the artist’s reputation, driven by speculation rather than its inherent quality. This media-driven, “certified” art, promoted by the big names in the world, rejects and hides true talent; artists who are also craftspeople, with knowledge inherited from the wealth of the past. In their workshops, in the silence of inspiration, they continue working with their passion, and teach us to look again at what moves us. CFF |
